Housing Maintenance Worker

We are currently recruiting for a housing maintenance worker in our busy housing department. The successful candidate will ensure that individual properties are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and health & safety during the change of tenancy process, following HCIL’s policies & procedures. HCIL currently manage over 1000 properties across Northern Ireland providing accommodation to vulnerable families.

Main Duties & Tasks

Key Responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Carrying out a full change of tenancy (COT) process when a HCIL placement moves out, individual tasks to include:

      - General domestic repairs

      - Removal and disposing of excess rubbish

      - Gardening

      - Painting and decorating

      - Basic Plumbing and basic electrical works

      - Basic carpentry

      - Basic plastering

      - Furniture Delivery

      - Cleaning

      - Health & Safety inspection

  • Implement all HCIL maintenance and repairs policy & procedures.

  • Carry out routine inspections of properties to identify and resolve issues, this may be completed in conjunction with landlords/letting agents, Housing Executive and HCIL

  • Ensure all paperwork for each property is completed and logged onto HCIL Management Information System (MIS)

  • Manage relationships with contractors, tenants and commissioners and maintenance staff

  • Increase efficiencies in ‘turnaround’ time of void properties

  • Carry out routine inspections of HCIL vehicles, tools & equipment

  • Keep maintenance logs and report on daily activities

  • Ensure all Housing policies and procedures are adhered to at all times


  • Previous experience within the property maintenance sector.

  • Good communication.

  • Basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, tiling, decorating and plastering etc.

  • Excellent time management and organisation.

  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines

  • Full UK Driving license.

  • Basic health and safety knowledge (Additional training can be provided)

Working Hours

  • Monday - Friday

  • 8.00am - 6.00pm

  • Flexibility is required
